Virgin territory
An English university student is auctioning off his virginity. It looks like it will go for around $11,000 at the current exchange rate. That should help with the tuition, and then some: Bournemouth University costs £1125 per year.
Comments:
Prostitution is illegal.
Sure hope the winning bidder manages to reduce her (I assume her rather than his)unit price per minute well below the $11,000 mark.
Wonder what the over/under is here.
Stolypin, both the article and Erin's post make the person's sex perfectly clear.
Some guys just have a hard time getting dates.
Unless he is from a rich family the Government pay the £1125 per year tuition fees. He gets a student loan if required which can be up to £4500 per year and the loan is then paid back at a ridiculous rate of something like £50 per month for many years afterwards provided he gets a job paying more than £10,000pa.
In short - twat. He does not need to do this. What a sad little chap and I hope the girls at his uni are making him feel loved.....I'm at uni and I do not have to do this. Then again I'm married and the wife won't let me!
Actually, a remarkable feat by this young man in maintaining his, uh, status, assuming that university life in the U.K. in the 21st century is anything like it was in the 1970s.
Which reminds me: I would like to take this opportunity to thank publicly for the first time Ted Heath, Mr. Scargill and his coal miners for providing me with so many cold, dreary Manchester days and nights without electricity. Silver lining indeed.
greythistle,
The article and the post could not make the sex of the winning bidder clear since the auction is not complete.
I wonder what happens if the winning bid is from a guy?
Also, the per minute cost could be adjusted both by a more extended time in the first session (quality) or by more times during one night (quantity), depending on whether the auction is for the "first time" or the "first night".
Prostitution is illegal.
It's my understanding that in Britain, streetwalking, pimping, and operating brothels is illegal; but prostitution is not.
Jonas is correct: prostitution is legal while solicitation, "operating a house of ill repute" and various other associated activities are not. At least, this is the case in England and Wales; it may not be in Scotland or Northern Ireland.

The phrase I heard most often in connection with prostitution related prosecutions in England was "living off the immoral earnings of . . ." which I imagined was their focus on pimps rather than on prostitution.
I did spend a semester living in a quasi-brothel in Old Trafford, Manchester during my student days thanks to a real-estate agent who didn't bother to tell me about the building's reputation and for which I paid a semester's rent in advance!. Would like to meet that guy some day. I actually earned a few quid babysitting for some of the ladies while I was home studying. An interesting experience to be sure.
